The Essentials for Parents

2017

In the weeks, months, and even years after childbirth, women tend to lose the connection to the deepest muscle of the core: the transverse abdominal. Lack of strength in this area contributes to low back pain, pelvic disorders, urinary incontinence, and a protruding pouch under the belly button. Unfortunately, many traditional exercises performed in the post-natal period (and beyond!) make these conditions worse due to an emphasis on other core muscles at the expense of transverse abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. Christina Schwefel, owner of Go Figure Barre Studios, joins us for a demonstration of how to activate and strengthen the transverse abdominal and pelvic floor. She will also show several exercises that are focused on pelvic floor and abdominal muscle rehabilitation, postural alignment and movement quality and functional conditioning. An additional focus will be on how to modify and progress your exercise safely.

Venue: Go Figure Barre Studio, Darien

Facilitator: Christina Schwefel, Owner Go Figure Barre Studio
